Healing Through Prayer

Does GOD Hear Your Prayers Online? by Galileo Woods
Many people are going through hard times as of now and with so many people struggling its surprising that they all feel alone in this. With the jobless rate hovers around 10% of the whole country (14 million), and a staggering 40 million people that are uninsured. It is hard for anyone to have hope for their own family, friends, and their own personal sake. Where do you go to even find hope or keep your faith? Facebook… Twitter…. Unlikely. Where is a place where a miracle is just around the corner or just a couple of key strokes and click away? Unfortunately, nowhere but there is a place that can least give you some salvation, or can it?
I stumble upon a site that could just return that hope back to America, if not the world. It is called GODPleaseHearMe, where you can pray or submit your issues and other users no matter what language or culture will hear your struggles and pray for you. I found this concept amazing at first, because it takes down the barrier of having to confess publicly at your local church that you may or may not be part of or crying to your friends about how sad your life is right now. Though they would be great friends to seat and hear your struggle, they’re just one person. With GODPleaseHearMe it is not just your friends; it is the entire world giving their shoulder for you to cry on and help. But the site does bring up one big question that needed to be looked into, “Does praying for others really work?”
Surprisingly some scientific studies say YES it does. In fact many have accepted the fact that prayer can aid in recovery. It has also been suggested that if a person knows that he or she is being prayed for it can increase morale and become up-lifting, thus aiding recovery. Studies even show that prayer can reduce physical stress regardless of the god or gods a person prays to. In a study by Centra State Hospital, “the psychological benefits of prayer may help reduce stress and anxiety, promote a more positive outlook, and strengthen that person’s will to live.”
You might be seating there reading this saying to yourself, “Okay, but this is the internet. Prayers can’t possible work online.” If you believe that, then you will be surprise again. A study published by The Journal of Alternative and Complementary Medicine alleges evidence that a test with 11 people praying in variety of different geographical locations were able to remotely influence the MRI-measurable brain activity of the person who they were praying for. So GODPleaseHearMe might actually be doing the world a free service by allowing people to post their prayer online and receive help immediately. The Bible even talks about how prayer can be used as a tool to aid those at a distance. In the book of Isaiah 55:11, the New International Version states “So is my word that goes out from my mouth: It will not return to me empty, but will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for which I sent it.” Prayers can be sent to any place or person from anywhere in world. In the book of Luke 7:6-10, Jesus even heals a person with his words while not even being in the same location. So praying for others online or receiving help is not too far fetch regardless if you believe in GOD or science.
All this sounds like really powerful stuff but is it easy to do? Why yes it is, plus it is super fast too. Took me less than 2 minutes in fact. Well at first, I became surprise about how much I wanted to open up when I posted anonymously. There was just so much to talk about that was going on with my life that I really needed help about, my dog been lost since last week, my mother is struggling with cancer, and my best friend been searching for a job for the last 6 months. The world, or at least mines, felt like it was falling apart and until now. Now it is good to know that there is a place that I don’t have to feel alone or like I’m talking to myself. Now there is a place where people can pray and pray for others, give advice, see miracles happen in other people’s lives, and make new friends. GODPleaseHearMe is a great place that I would strongly recommend anyone to try out at least once, because like the site said “We’re Louder Together”. So maybe this time we’ll actually be heard.

Faith Factor: Proof of the Healing Power of Prayer $18 “Drawing from the latest scientific research, as well as numerous illustrative case studies, The Faith Factor offers convincing proof that religious practices can and do enhance the healing powers of medicine. And nationally renowned physician Dale A. Matthews offers a program any patient can follow to incorporate faith into their own healing.>Dr. Matthews points out that encouraging an integration of religious beliefs and practices in medical settings can have important benefits for the entire medical community — from patients and doctors to national health policy makers. He shows how the national trend toward rediscovering religious values has led many patients to use prayer in conjunction with conventional treatment, and that the results have already confirmed that faith and religious practice can be valuable medicine. Finally, Dr. Matthews helps readers explore the connection between faith and medicine in their own lives through methods of prayer, community worship, and study of Scripture.” |

11 $30.48 I found God in the “stillness.” This book is a testimony to the incredible healing power and the promises of the Twelve Step Recovery Program. As a recovering alcoholic I quickly worked through the Twelve Steps with a sponsor. Step “11″ states that we must seek through prayer (asking God,) and meditation (listening to God,) to form “conscious contact” with the God of our understanding. I practiced this step faithfully. On May 15, 2005 to my utter amazement a dialog with God began whom I now lovingly refer to as “My Holy One.” There is one major reason I do believe that I established this communication, I BELIEVED THAT GOD WOULD ANSWER ME IF I ASKED! Enclosed in this book are some of the questions I always wanted to ask God such as: Creation, Souls, Heaven, evolution, the physics of the Universe, Biblical accuracy, the devil, war, poverty, Mary and Jesus, and much more. I also discovered that God has needs. He needs us to listen to Him. This extraordinary contact is not for the “special” or for the “chosen ones.” Anyone can do this if they truly desire it. It is our birthright. We All inherited this ability from God. God also wants us to know that He does not exist in a far away corner of the universe, He exits everywhere. He is even in the dirt that we walk upon. He assures us that We Are One. There is no separation between “Us.” God lives and breathes with us. He experiences our life journeys by way of an exchange of information with our souls. As spiritual entities we were ALL born in One Holy Moment of Creation and when we leave this earth we will surely return to Our Divine Nature once again. If you aresearching to fill a void in your heart when or if all other Gods have failed, if you are looking for a Higher Power who can be a mentor, a friend, and a Father, I humbly ask you to give this “One” a try. As I was taught in AA…………. God is either EVERYTHING, or He is NOTHING. |

12 Step Prayers for A Way Out $7.99 “12 Step Prayers for A Way Out” is an insightful collection of prayers and inspirational readings. It is a practical and spiritual tool for anyone currently working a twelve-step program. It can be used alone or as a companion to the best selling workbook, “The 12 Steps-A Way Out,” or “The Twelve Steps for Adult Children.” Either of the suggested companion books offer help for individuals who are seeking to identify and resolve painful issues from their past.It contains an extensive collection of prayers and inspirational readings for people in twelve-step programs and reinforces the power of prayer as part of the recovery journey. Reliance on a Higher Power through prayer is an important key to success in any twelve-step program. But prayer doesn’t come easily for many of us. Many of us see the wisdom and effectiveness of the Twelve Steps, but we sometimes balk when we come to “Sought through prayer and mediation…” prescribed in Step Eleven. We may question the usefulness of prayer, or we may ignore the practice of it. Most resistance to prayer doesn’t come from a disbelief in God; it stems from the fact many of us were never taught how to pray. The book adapts the Twelve Steps that were developed over seventy five years ago with the formation of Alcoholic Anonymous. In this program we learn how God uses the healing power of the Twelve Steps as a way to restore the lives of countless individuals. Members of Alcoholics Anonymous carried this healing message to others, acknowledging they are people who know what it is to be broken by life and mended by God. It is dedicated to all those who found healing through the twelve-step program, and who continue to choose to share their experience, strength and hope with those still searching. For companion books refer to “The 12 Steps for Adult Children” or “The 12 Steps – A Way O |

A ”medicyne of wordes”: Women, prayer, and healing in fourteenth- and fifteenth-century England. $49.99 This study explores prayer, literature, and healing in late fourteenth- and early fifteenth-century England, focusing on the intersections between medieval women’s medicine and spiritual devotion. More specifically, it argues that medieval women strove to harness the prophylactic power that the word/Word exerted over a psychosomatically unified body and soul. Evidence of this sort of therapy materializes in English books of hours and prayer scrolls dating from the fourteenth and fifteenth centuries.;The dissertation begins by investigating sources widely accessible to lay readers that promoted the idea that body and soul existed in a “psychosomatic unity.” It explores the belief that illness resulted from sin, that virtue could be linked to good health, and that through prayer, emotion may be manipulated to elicit physical transformation. Later, the part of the book of hours most specifically connected with healing, The Little Office of the Virgin Mary, is addressed. This research considers the ways in which the Little Office inspired a devotional practice that used plaintive aspects of the psalms to promote emotional internalization, diagnosis, rehabilitation, and reintegration as a means to salvation of body and soul. Finally, the dissertation identifies two applications of prayer possibly inspired by books of hours. It discusses birthing girdles, scrolls of parchment inscribed with prayer and often worn by parturient mothers to ease—or even eliminate— the pain of childbirth. It also considers the ways in which Julian of Norwich emphasizes the salutary properties of prayer with regard to spiritual despair, a condition that, for Julian and her contemporaries, affected both the soul and the body. Julian’s treatment of the condition betrays a particularly feminine understanding of prayer, speech, and modes of receiving and expressing sacred knowledge.;On close inspection, one can recognize that books of hours and prayer scrolls contain carefully constructed |

A Beautiful Mess: A Perfectionist’s Journey Through Self-care $15.99 In a society obsessed with perfection, it is no wonder so many women – especially Christian women – are breaking beneath the burden of expectation. With airbrushed cover models and “reality TV” blaring in stereo sound, it is no wonder women are abusing themselves, literally, to maintain the perception of perfection. If you are exhausted from trying to keep it all together or feel anxious at the thought of someone “finding you out” and calling you a fraud; if you are at the breaking point from meeting the demands of everyone else and always putting yourself last or simply beating yourself up because of your imperfections – this book was written for you.In her debut book, Kristin Ritzau shares her very personal journey to overcome crippling perfectionism. As she navigated a new marriage, endured a quarter-life health crisis, and was forced to redefine the God of her childhood, Ritzau discovered freedom in accepting she was a beautiful mess. She didn’t need to clean up her “perfect” life any longer. It was only through examining the emotional, mental, physical, sexual and spiritual facets of herself, that she experienced the Holy Spirit’s healing: acceptance, contentment and rest. “A Beautiful Mess” will help readers do the same by introducing practices such as contemplative prayer, art journaling, and “playing in your body” while demystifying the self-care journey. The best part of Ritzau’s story is that she is sharing it – to help other women heal and discover their own beautiful mess. |
